This whole blog thing is new for me, so chances are if you are reading this you are my family member or close friend. However, I would like to take a little bit of time for those of you who don't know me as well, to give a little background on who I am and why I am typing this first blog post that I never expected to write.
Today (July 18th) is a very special day to me. I was born in Scottsdale, AZ but grew up for the most part in the great state of Texas due to my family moving when I was young for my dad's job. I love Texas. I love it so much that you can find random objects around my house shaped like it. My husband's wedding band is engraved with the lyric "Forever Like Texas" from the song we had our first dance to. I can't get through an episode of "Friday Night Lights" without crying. But despite all of this, Arizona is where I have always considered home. When I was twenty-one I had an early quarter-life crisis and decided that I was moving to Scottsdale. On July 18th, 2012, I stepped out of the PHX airport and called my mom (in shock) stating, "It feels like when you open the oven on your face." She laughed and said, "I tried to tell you, honey." Each year on this date I reflect on how much has changed since then and how I need to appreciate every part of my journey - even when I have to do it while hiding in the comfort of my A/C.
In my fifth lap around the sun here in sunny AZ, I re-created my real estate business, launched my makeup business, married the love of my life and we bought our first home. Those are just the big moments. There were definitely other little victories and some pretty difficult times as well. This next year I am so ready to get organized in my new home and push myself professionally and personally to be the best that I can be.

In the last couple of years my always-present interest for taking care of myself and living a healthy lifestyle has become more of a focus for me. About a year and a half ago I started working at Citrine Natural Beauty Bar. It is a beautifully curated, local shop that sells non-toxic skincare, makeup and supplements. Having positive influences around you in an environment like this will definitely make you want to step your game up. Trust me, you should be jealous of my coworkers and the boss lady I work for - they are pretty much a dream. In addition to this, my brother (best friend and hero, Kooper) has been struggling with an autoimmune disease. It is eye-opening to see health issues so close to you, and makes you think twice about what you put in (and on) your body.

I have given this a lot of thought lately and have decided to dive in. My personal makeup and skincare are almost 100% non-toxic now, and I have even turned my home into a clean-zone, from my toothpaste to my laundry detergent. It's difficult to swallow my total at Sprouts sometimes, but I know doing this now will help me and my family in the future. I feel very strongly about the importance of this and have started to feel guilty putting toxins on my clients' skin when I feel in my heart that it isn't what's best for our bodies. This summer and fall I am going to start transitioning my professional kit to clean products and plan to have made the switch complete by 2018.
I am so excited to make this change and know that my clients will look and feel just as beautiful, knowing that they are wearing the best in the green beauty industry. And hey, if you don't make it around to washing your face on your wedding night... If I was your makeup artist that may not be all that bad ;-) Wedding night only though... and maybe New Years Eve and your birthday. All other times, please wash your face! You'll thank me when you are older.
I am not too sure where this blog is going, but I'd imagine it will be mostly beauty and wellness, with maybe a little bit of fashion and my dogs sprinkled in. I am a Gemini and tend to be a bit of a scattered gal, so I sure hope it will at least be interesting.
Have a beautiful day,
